The venue in Cologne, Germany showcased skatepark style, not dirt jump specialist Goldman’s thing. Out of his comfort zone, Goldman had to step up and challenge himself, and actually pulled off some good runs. Speaking to him before qualification he said he had one trick and about a 12 second run, but after he flipped the first drop the tricks just flowed out for two solid qualifying runs, placing him in sixth going into the finals on Saturday.

In the finals Goldman crashed in the first run, but pulled off a clean second run to finish in 8th. Lance McDermott commanded this event flipping the drop and front flipping the box jump, amid other brilliant moves. Darren Berrecloth finished second and Paul Basagoitia placed 3rd. To describe the event will be best left to the Rasoulution crew as they are pumping out the detailed press release at the moment.

It is a pleasure being at an event put on by the Rasoulution team of Tarek Rasouli and Anne Baltes.

They have pulled off a series with huge sponsors, television coverage (a one hour show for each of the 5 events to reach 70 million households), and executed it with the highest degree of professionalism and attention to detail, and they do it with a huge passion for the sport and to create opportunities for the riders. They have crews come build the course, brand it, and the set up is amazing (especially if you are accustomed to attending mountain bike races).

This crew blows everyone out of the water by providing a VIP hospitality area and vantage points, Nissan Qashqai car displays, two big screens playing highlights of the series events and results that you could even watch in the evening from the nearby outdoor café, which makes the experience amazing! They make it so easy that one just had to check in at the hotel and take 100 steps out to the venue, held at Media Park in Cologne, to enjoy the show.

To recap the series so far, Goldman’s results at the Nissan Qashqai Urban Challenge have been bland, not qualifying in the first and second round, while placing 5th in Madrid and 8th in Cologne got him into the show. Up next he will get back into his element competing at the Braun 26Trix dirt jump comp in Austria in 2 weeks, then the final Qashqai event which will be held in Paris in a month.
