2007 Troy Lee Designs D2 Carbon Flame Helmet
Thursday, April 5th, 2007So it’s getting close to that time of year to start buying new gear for the coming season and chances are you just might need a new helmet. Troy Lee Designs (TLD) have some pretty fly looking helmets that you’ve most likely seen if you’ve been to a downhill race.
The D2 comes in two models, one carbon and one composite. The TLD D2 Carbon Flame helmet has some very nice graphics and is very lightweight. To find out more info on the D2 and check out some pictures, click the link below.

Below is the D2 Carbon Flame. Retail on the helmet is $375.00. If you’re looking for a cheaper D2, there is a composite model available for $75.00 less.
The D2 Carbon helmets consist of 60% carbon fiber, 20% aramid, and are then reinforced with 20% fiberglass. Finally, the D2 Carbon helmet features a unique cosmetic carbon fiber outer surface. All D2 Carbon helmets include titanium visor screws plus a high-end TLD SE Helmet Bag.
Here’s some of the features and enough pictures to show you what the D2 gives you:
- A very lightweight helmet
- Titanium visor screws
- TLD SE Helmet bag
- D2 helmets meet or exceed safety approval rating requirements from CSPC, ASTM (BMX and downhill), and DE
- MSRP is $375.00
- Weight: 960g

If you’re looking to get one of these, make sure you try it on first as fitting varies between helmets. You can see their size chart at www.troyleedesigns.com
So is this helmet worth $375.00? Well that’s up to you. Arguably it does the same thing that a cheaper helmet does functionally speaking. A motocross helmet would offer a bit more protection but that comes with increased weight and less airflow. It’s all about weighing what you feel you need out of a helmet.
TLD’s fit most people pretty well and they’re very popular among racers due to their light weight, styling, and overall fit.
The TLD helmets come in a few color varieties, and you can check them out at http://www.troyleedesigns.com

The helmet fits amazing, has a wide view and offers unparalleld safety. It breathes incredibly well and works tops!
Recomend it to anyone, I am closterphobic and have a really hard time wearing a helmet or goggles so for this to work its saying alot.
