Phaser Gearbox
Monday, March 19th, 2007Phaser has come out with a pretty slick gearbox system. MBUK got the full scoop on it and it’s no doubt that drivetrain companies are worried about Gearbox’s. Check out more and a video inside of how this beauty works.

“No Smoke MTB is an Italian company who has come up with a gear box transmission solution. By using two 11 sprocket cassettes in parallel, the chain is shunted using rollers on tracks and guides to elicit 11 speeds of useable gears.”

Thats sick, now does it mount to a special frame or will they sell one that will somehow bolt onto your standard frame?

Yep, It will require a special frame.

if they are clever they use this system with the g-con standard. (g-boxx nicolai) and voila you have a lighter (probably) gear-thing than a g-boxx (think there is rohloff inside)

G-boxx using a rohloff speedhub will have to drastically use some expensive light parts to come close i think.
Here’s a cutout of whats inside one.
While they are coming out with a lighter one they say, the phaser looks a lot more promising as its already lighter. Great stuff though. The other issue is right now they’re using a grip shifter, but are supposed to be making a trigger shifter soon from what i’ve heard.

hmmm…looks a lot heavier.
a little bit sad is, i read on a different site that this thing wont come with the g boxx standard…

I’m not sure if they did patent it or not. I converted a page on it awhile back

Ive been following gearbox design
for while and most companies seem to think they can patent a deraileur in a box when i looked into patenting something similar i was told bya patent company that concepts such as this would not hold up well in scrutiny
so ive been developing continuously variable transmission NO CHAIN

Does anyone have the number of teeth on both those cassettes. I’m extremely interested in these mtb gearboxes.
