Monday, January 29th, 2007

What you can expect out of this helmet is a helmet that will protect your head without the weight penalty. It’s made for people who want a helmet that will protect your head better than your typical full face mountain bike helmet.

With all RockGardn products, expect a helmet that is designed to be very strong, look good, have some great technology, and ergonomics biker’s can enjoy.

Stay tuned, we’ll try to get one to show off once they become available right before the season starts (March-ish).

Price is slated to be determined but expect $129.99 - $149.99

“If you’re not comfortable with a helmet that only meets the US Government DOT standard, what do you look for? Historically, American riders have looked for a Snell label but the world is getting smaller and we now have other viable alternatives. The ECE 22.05 standard is used in over 50 European countries, including Germany, a country known for taking a hard line on personal protection.

Helmets certified to the ECE 22.05 standard are approved for competition events by AMA, CCS, FIM, Formula-USA and WERA and are chosen by nearly every professional motorcycle racers competing in world championship road racing, motocross and off road events, including the ultimate sport of Moto GP. Helmets that are certified to both DOT and ECE 22.05 offer the highest level of realistic protection with the added benefit of light weight for day-long comfort and rider performance. “

SNELL restrictions can be frowned upon since they can often yield a helmet that is too hard and not absorb a single shock as well as a softer helmet. The ECE22.05 provides that middle ground that is very good for motocross and downhill bike helmets.

I just bought a brand new Fox Rampage helmet last year. . . . looks like I’ll be dishing out another 130.00 or so for this one. My wife’s not going to be happy about that!!

    Sicklines Tip:
Tell her it’ll keep your head safer. Safety usually flows pretty easily with significant others and parents.
