Rohloff Speed Hub Article

Si over at Descent World has written a lengthy article on the Rohloff Speedhub technology. Si himself tests out the system on a Nicolai Argon FR and also had James Williams talk about his experiences with running the hub on a Specialized Big Hit. Both were impressed with the simplicity and durability of the set up. They did comment that they wished the gear ratios would have been a little tighter. If you’re used to running a road cassette the ratios could take some getting used to. For more information you can check out Rohloff’s website and our Interbike coverage.

“I had this beast for 4 weeks and gave her a good thrashing out to put the Rohloff through the mangle and back.. Grip shift isn’t my bag but once on the trail they revved back into action. Climbing or descending went well as I could change gear whilst stationary without loss of traction. Great when diving into corners in 7th gear, twisting the grip and exiting in 4th without loosing any drive! Maintenance free, just oil the chain and nothing to tighten up in the way of mechs etc.., a winner!”
