Review: 2006 Brodie Nemisis

Decline posted up another one of their mag reviews online. This time it’s on the 2006 Brodie Nemisis. The Nemisis is a short travel (117mm) bike using a four-bar suspension setup. With spot-on geometry, quality construction, and stiff rear end the Nemisis looks like it should be able to handle anything you can throw at it. For the full review check Decline.

“Whipping the bike around in the air is no easy task, but the bike has a well-balanced feel so it is predictable. In the air, the Nemesis feels more like a DH bike than a typical short travel bike. That little bit of extra weight gives a sense of security and stability that helps when clearing less manicured jumps. Four-bar suspension set ups like the Nemesis are known for a very active feel, so it is good that Brodie spec’d a platform style rear shock to keep the bike pedaling rock solid. When you get on the gas, the rear end has very little pedal induced feedback, which is great when powering out of a berm or coming out of a start gate.”

This is different from Transition Preston how? Preston is way better btw

  • The Nemesis is a Horst Link rear end.

    Preston not so much…

Transition makes some pretty cool bikes, but why exactly is the Preston “way better”? You must have logged some serious time on each in order to make such a blanket statement…

    From the article:

Brodie uses a four-bar linkage on the rear that closely resembles that of the FSR design. Maybe that’s why the suspension works so great. Not only does it pick up small bumps but it pedals efficiently as well. Brodie also decided on a 7.875-inch eye-to-eye length shock with a two-inch stroke to produce its 117mm of rear wheel travel thus giving the bike a nice 2.3:1 leverage ratio.
The Nemesis has one of the most laterally stiff four-bar suspended frame we’ve ever ridden. Apparently, all of those gussets and larger tubes do help. The cranks and rear wheel flex long before you can see and feel the back end give laterally.
