2006 Downieville Classic
Friday, August 4th, 2006The balance of weight, speed, and skill. The 2006 Downieville provides a gorgeous backdrop to racing. It really puts in nature in perspective. The course is fairly groomed and smooth but it does have some rougher sections further down, but it is possible to clean them on any type of bike, it just depends on the speed you want to carry.
There in lies the question, are you a better bike handler or a stronger climber? The best approach is to run something close to a 6″ bike in the front and back that tips the scales in the low thirty pound mark. I saw many flats while there so run heavier tires and either tubeless or heavy tubes in them. A chaingiude is recommended; it is after all a DH race!
